Written down before you ask
What the money buys, and what happens when it doesn't work.
Every rule below is written here so it is never a surprise in an email later.
Quick Look
Common and easy. We keep an eye out on the next run, with no promised date.
Week Run
One small piece, hunted local, one week.
Long Run
One small piece that means going out of county. A day or three on the road, one week.
Quoted Run
Furniture, a whole set, a designer's brief, anything open-ended. Describe it and we name a price in writing. Nothing is charged today.
The advertised prices exist so an ordinary customer never has to negotiate. The quote exists so real work never gets sold at a loss.
The fee buys the search, not the piece
$20 buys a week of local looking. $40 buys a day or three out of county. What you are paying for is the walking, and the walking happens whether or not the fork exists. We never write that we guarantee a find.
If we find it, the fee comes off the price
You do not pay twice. When the piece lands we quote it with every hunt fee already deducted, and you have 72 hours to decide before it goes on The Shelf.
If we come up empty, the fee comes back
You get the plainest screen on the site: where we looked, what the dry runs were, and why it is scarce. Then two buttons — refund the fee, or stay on the Want List and we keep looking. Refunds are confirmed in writing within one business day.
When a run outgrows its tier, you get one number
A $40 run that turns into a second trip two counties over is a bigger job than $40. We tell you what we learned, what it would take, and one price. Accept or close it. We never add to a price without asking, and never raise a price twice on the same run without a yes in between.
Big jobs are quoted by hand, free to ask
Furniture, a whole set, a designer's brief, anything open-ended. Describe it and we write back within one business day with a plain price and what it covers. Nothing is charged before you agree to the number.
Every piece carries two prices
Evansville pickup, and shipped with the shipping already inside the price. No calculator, no surprise at the end. Where shipping honestly costs more than the piece is worth, we say so and refund it or hold it for pickup.
We photograph the wear and name it
The chip, the pitting, the hairline, the repair. If it is on the piece it is in the photo and in the caption. That is the only proof of honesty worth anything in this trade.
No accounts, no passwords, no carts
Your run lives at a private link, permanently, and we email it to you. We ask for your email once, last, and we never verify it with a code.
Inland iron does not arrive pitted.
A hand plane that spent forty years in a barn outside Poseyville and one that spent them in a garage two blocks from salt water are not the same tool. Coastal air pits steel, and the pitting goes deeper than a wire wheel reaches.
Our stock is dry-stored and inland. When we sell a tool or a piece of metalware we say where it was kept, and we photograph the surface straight on so you can see the difference yourself.
